Bats can be very hard to keep out of an attic especially if it is an older home.
You have to find where they are getting in and block the hole. On the barn now owned by my EX the siding was black from them landing against the white siding. The barn now is so full of guano that it is not safe to enter with out a mask as the dust from it is toxic. Guano is great fertilizer but also toxic. In other places I tried to seal them out for people I never could find any evident places they were getting in. check any where where two roof angle may come together as a lot of times they look closed off but actually are only cosmeticly closed off but there are actually holes in the soffits. I have seen where some sort of trap door was placed on a hole that allowed exit but not reentry. Of course this time of year they are hibernating so that will not help. |

im a builder and have seen them get thru metal roof vents on holder houses. rat w/big teeth !!!!! when teh weather breaks, if you have vents, check for droppings by entrance on the shingles.
depending on th elocation ..... city/country setting. diff. things can be done. but this time of year the should be sleepin. DANE |

Bats are very beneficial, but ugly creatures. The best thing to do is to provide a second home for them to get used to. Once they find another home, they will relocate there if motivated to leave, and you seal their entrances. If you "shoo" them out and seal the entrances, the colony will become confused. This can lead to problems with the colony. Get a couple "bat boxes" available from many places online. Check out "batroost.com". They seem to be very knowledgeable. The can guide you thru the process!
If you cut off the entrance/exits while the bats are in there-you'll end up killing the mighty mosquito munching machines, and leaving a big stench behind. If you can motivate them to relocate, you'll both be better off! spotforkids.org Last edited by spotforkids.org : 05-29-2008 at 11:48 AM. Reason: additional info |
